Read on to find out exactly how to fix your trampoline net, so you can bring safety back to your backyard!

How to Repair a Trampoline Net?

Below is the step-by-step procedure to repair a trampoline net:

  • Step 1: Mark the Tear
  • Step 2: Cut the Netting
  • Step 3: Sew Together the New Piece of Netting
  • Step 4: Replace the Net and Anchor Tabs

Step 1: Mark the Tear

The first thing you have to do when you want to repair your trampoline net is to find the tear. Check the entire trampoline net, inside and out, to locate the tear and mark it with a marker or piece of tape.

When you mark the tear, make sure you mark the location of the tear from the inside of the net as well as from the outside.

Also, try to mark the tear in a way that will make it easy for you to remember where it is later on when you start sewing the net back together. For example, mark the tear by folding the net along the tear line and then pinning it together with a pin.

Step 2: Cut the Netting

Make sure that you cut the netting along the tear line to remove the damaged section, cutting close to the stitching. Cut the netting along a line that is approximately 1/2” away from the stitching.

When you cut the netting, make sure to cut the netting outside and inside pieces of netting at the same time so that you can match up the two sides and create a single tear instead of having two separate tears.

Even if the tear is close to the stitching on one side of the net, it is still a good idea to cut that side of the netting away from the stitching on the other side, too. This will prevent the tear from getting worse and spreading to other parts of the net.

Step 3: Sew Together the New Piece of Netting

Now that you have removed the damaged portion of the trampoline net, it’s time to sew together the new piece of netting. It is important to not only sew the new piece of netting to the outside of the trampoline net but also to the inside. This will ensure that the new piece of netting is sturdy and will last for quite some time.

Trampoline netting is heavy-duty and can withstand a lot of wear and tear, but it is best to reinforce it where necessary. This can be done by sewing a reinforcing stitch inside the net on the newly added piece of netting to strengthen it and make it last longer.

The reinforcing stitch can be a basic running stitch or a slip stitch, depending on how thick the netting is. Choose whichever stitch you feel comfortable with.

Step 4: Replace the Net and Anchor Tabs

Now that you’ve sewn the new piece of netting to both sides of the netting, it’s time to replace the net and anchor tabs.

First, make sure that the inside of the net is facing the inside of the trampoline so that the newly sewn netting does not have to face the weather or UV rays.

When you replace the net and anchor tabs, make sure that each piece is placed back in the correct position.

When you replace the net, make sure that the folded edge of the net is facing the same way as it was when you first took it off the trampoline. This is typically the outside of the net.

Trampoline Safety Tips

Even though your trampoline net is repaired, you should still take the recommended safety precautions when using your trampoline.

  • Make sure to only use the trampoline when supervised by an adult and never allow children to jump on the trampoline unsupervised.
  • Keep the trampoline net clean by brushing it regularly during the spring and fall when there is less use on the trampoline.
  • You can even clean it with a brush and water off the trampoline as needed, but make sure to avoid using too much water because it could damage the stitching or the net itself.
  • Keep your trampoline net properly maintained and repaired to prevent it from ripping again with regular use. Trampoline nets can wear out over time with regular use, especially if they are used by very active kids or if they are exposed to the sun.
